The product
Creatlie, built by Creatlie Limited in Lagos, is a social app that connects creative talent with people who want to hire them. It combines content feeds, short 'Rant' posts, live features, an AI chat assistant (CreatlieAI) and the ability to sell goods and services from a profile. It launched publicly in January 2025 and is on the App Store and Google Play.
02
The problem
A content-heavy social app on mid-range Android and iOS devices lives or dies by scroll performance and stability. Users need long media feeds that stay smooth and an app that doesn't crash or leak memory over a session.
03
My role
Senior Frontend EngineerDec 2024 – Jun 2025
- Senior frontend engineer on the React Native codebase (TypeScript, Expo, GraphQL).
- Audited and resolved core rendering bottlenecks and memory leaks.
- Translated Figma prototypes into accessible, pixel-accurate production screens alongside design.
04
Engineering approach
- 01Memoised expensive components and stabilised props, so feed items re-render only when their data changes.
- 02Lazy-loaded heavy screens and media, and moved long feeds to virtualised lists.
- 03Profiled memory over long sessions to find and fix leaks in subscriptions and media handling.
05
Key decisions
Virtualise everything that scrolls
Feeds render only what is near the viewport, so memory stays flat no matter how far a user scrolls.
Fix the cause, not the frame
Performance work started from profiler traces rather than guesses, and each fix was measured against a baseline.
06
Technologies
- React Native
- Expo
- TypeScript
- GraphQL
- Figma
07
Outcome
- Improved app load and render performance by about 20% (CV).
- Cut crash and memory-leak incidents by about 30% (CV).
- Public listing: 100K+ downloads on Google Play.
